This job was not a typical one for me, but I was soooo excited when AOPA (Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association) contacted me for an article in their December 2013 issue. Not only was I excited about being published, but it was for something so incredibly neat! Rusty Lindeman from Rusty’s Flying Service in Hondo was approached by Disney to transform a worn out 1988 Air Tractor fuselage into the one of the most recognizable planes around, Dusty from the movie Planes, that would represent the movie character at airshows and events around the country. Disney wanted an actual plane that matched Dusty’s characteristics in every single detail(he had to repaint the smile SEVERAL times just to get it perfect…that is not a sticker!!). The airplane stayed busy all last Summer promoting the movie at many shows and events across both coasts. Lindeman has had a great response from kids as well as adults and it has been exciting for him to see kids getting interested in flying. I’m so excited I was called up for this job, it was definitely a fun change!
